Fee free and low fee

Course fees don’t apply but resource fees may. Resource fees include materials purchased by the TAFE or training provider that are required for and used during your training. All enquiries regarding eligibility, course and resource fees should be made to the TAFE college.

You must have left school*, have your primary place of residence in Western Australia, and are either:  

  • an Australian citizen; or  

  • a permanent visa holder; or  

  • hold a temporary visa type specified in section 6.3.7 of the VET Fees and Charges Policy; or 

  • Year 12 school students who are leaving school can access a subsidised training place from 27 October 2025.  

First Nations people, young people, people out of work or receiving income support, unpaid carers, people with disability, and women facing economic insecurity are particularly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity for fee free training.  

Existing worker trainees are not eligible for the fee free arrangements.

Yes. Fee free courses are available at WA TAFE colleges.

Low fee course annual fee cap (Lower fees, local skills)

Eligible students pay no more than: 

  • $400 per calendar year if aged 15–24 or a concession holder 

  • $1,200 per calendar year for all other students 

  • Year 12 students leaving school can access subsidised training from 27 October 2025. 

The cap applies to each course separately. You can complete multiple courses in one year, and each will be capped individually. 

Yes. While course fees are reduced, you may still need to pay for specific resources like materials or uniforms.

You’re eligible for the $400 cap if you start a unit before turning 25. Check with the TAFE college for details.

Yes. Many qualifications are available as apprenticeships or traineeships with low fees and annual caps.

If you withdraw before the unit’s withdrawal date, you’re entitled to a refund of the course fee and 50 per cent of the resource fee.

Please note that course fees are reviewed annually.

Only for select Diploma or Advanced Diploma level qualifications.

It's an Australian Government loan scheme that helps cover course fees. You repay it through the tax system once your income reaches a certain level.
