...what is tru?
The TAFE Response Unit has been set up to provide immediate support to industry and workers affected by workplace redundancies.
The TAFE Response Unit's 1800 303 319 helpline is a central point of contact for employers and employees wanting information about career and training options.
Staffed by TAFEWA professionals, the helpline provides direction on how workers can gain new qualifications, upgrade existing qualifications and formalise workplace skills.
Entering a training pathway after redundancy can help relieve the stress of losing a job and significantly increase a worker's prospects of finding new employment.
TAFEWA is made up of 10 colleges (four metropolitan and six regional) with more than 50 campuses across Western Australia and is the largest provider of vocational education and training in the State.
The colleges provide courses for vocational education and training, apprenticeships and traineeships, support for workplace training and commercial courses for business and industry.
Importantly, TAFEWA works closely with industry to provide and formally recognise skills that today's employers are looking for.
There are more than 400 qualifications available through TAFEWA at various levels in virtually all industry and subject areas.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Learning at school, TAFE or university isn't the only way people gain skills and knowledge. Recognition of Prior Learning is offered by TAFEWA and is a form of assessment that acknowledges learning gained through previous training and education, past and current work experience and life experience.
The RPL process involves validating and formalising a worker's existing skills and knowledge to obtain credits towards a nationally accredited TAFEWA qualification.
The advantages of RPL are:
- Existing skills and knowledge are formally recognised, eliminating the need to repeat the learning that has already been undertaken
- A formal qualification can be obtained in a shorter period of time and at less cost
- It can help with entry into higher levels of study and training
- It can increase career options
