Who is this section for?

This section of the site is dedicated to meeting the specific information and service needs of people employed to advise prospective TAFEWA students - particularly school advisors and careers counsellors.

Through the links below, you'll be able to find additional useful information that assists you in advising people about their TAFEWA study options. If there is anything that would be particularly helpful to school advisors and careers counsellors please let us know by emailing tafewasupport@det.wa.edu.au.

Some key pieces of information you may need include:

How to apply and enrol for TAFEWA
How to meet minimum entrance requirements and selection criteria.

Where can I get information on the number of places, eligible applicants, first preferences and selection criteria cut-off scores for qualifications in last year's full-time application process?

This information is supplied by the TAFEWA Admissions Centre in the Schools Report. It can provide useful guidance for advising people this year, but please note that this information is indicative only and should not be taken as an accurate reflection of future number of places, eligible applicants, first preferences and cut-off scores.

Points to consider when advising students on their full-time TAFEWA applications

To help students improve their chances of being selected for their preferred TAFEWA qualification, you should advise them to:

- Apply online.

- Talk to a school careers officer or a TAFEWA college information officer before choosing their preferences.

- Include their Curriculum Council student number on the application form.

- Apply only for qualifications which are being offered full-time.

- Consider including lower-level qualifications in their preferences. Many students apply only for Diploma and Advanced Diploma qualifications without including a “fall-back position”. They cannot be considered for a lower-level qualification unless it is included in their preference set.

- Make sure the qualifications they wish to apply for are suitable for school leavers. Some qualifications have special requirements such as the completion of a lower level certificate. They should not apply for these qualifications unless you are completing, or have completed, the stated prerequisite qualification.

- Ensure that they meet the minimum entrance requirements. Every TAFEWA qualification has a set of minimum entry requirements which a person must meet before their application can be considered. Before lodging their application confirm preferences with a school Careers Officer or a TAFEWA college Information Officer.

- Include copies of all work experience and employment documents. No credit can be given for work experience unless they provide written evidence (eg Work references, group certificates) in support of the claims made on their application form. These documents should be included, even if the work experience is not related to the qualification for which they have applied.

- Make sure that they include a complete set of documents (including all academic reports since Year 9) with their application. After their application is lodged, extra information cannot be sent in unless it is requested by the TAFEWA Admissions Centre.

- Choose only those TAFEWA campuses which are listed under each course. Students sometimes apply for campuses which do not offer the qualifications they require. This creates significant problems with their applications. In addition they should be aware that if you select a regional TAFEWA campus and are offered a place at that location, they cannot automatically transfer to a metropolitan campus.

- Notify the TAFEWA Admissions Centre if they change their address or other contact details after lodging their application. The student may need to be contacted at any time between lodgement and when offers are posted.

- If the student is not going to be at their home address in mid-January, they should make arrangements for someone to check their mail and act on their behalf. This may include leaving written permission to enrol them, plus any necessary fees.

Can I get a list of expired qualifications and new qualifications each semester or year?

Not at the moment, but this may be possible in the near future and will be made available here if so. If this is something that would be useful to you please email tafewasupport@det.wa.edu.au.
