What is VET in Schools?
VET in Schools allows secondary school students to complete part or all of a nationally recognised vocational qualification while still studying towards their secondary graduation.
Students can study vocational education and training (VET) as well as regular school subjects – either at a TAFEWA college or at their own school.
They can also get a head start on an apprenticeship or traineeship by becoming involved in School Apprenticeship Link, or a School Based Traineeship.
More information can be found at vetinfonet.det.wa.edu.au.
What VET?
There are a number of different kinds of VET that you can get involved in while still at school.
VET as part of the WA Certificate of Education
Secondary school students can simultaneously study towards completion of Curriculum Council Courses of Study as well as VET Units of Competence. This can be structured in a variety of ways, including VET incorporated into a Course of Study, and VET undertaken instead of a Course of Study.
More information about VET in the new system is available here.

School Apprenticeship Link
School Apprenticeship Link (SAL) provides students enrolled in the WACE at a secondary school to get a taste of what work is all about.
For more information about School Apprenticeship Link visit ApprentiCentre.
School Based Traineeships
Enrolling in a School Based Traineeship allows students enrolled in the WACE at a secondary school to begin a training program where they learn and get paid at the same time, while remaining at school.
For more information about School Based Traineeships and traineeships in general visit ApprentiCentre.
Structured Workplace Learning
Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) is a Curriculum Council subject and generally involves students attending a work experience placement. Many VET in Schools programs incorporate SWL. For further information concerning SWL, visit the Curriculum Council website.
